Community Information

My community attends 3 local elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. We gather at school events and functions. We access services at the local Mount Vernon Hospital and the doctor complexes on Hinson Farm Road. Transortation is provided by the Rex bus which travels from the Huntington Metro (part of the larger DC Metro System) all the way down (about 10 miles) to Fort Belvoir. Education is provided at several local elementary, middle and high schools.

My commnunity has many relegious groups. We are located in Mount Vernon and we have a lot of historical buildings in our area. We have Mount Vernon (the home of George Washington), Woodlawn, Gunston Hall, River Farm, and the New Army Museum that just opened up last year.

The community along the Route 1 corridor is in need of services such as libraries and community centers. We are in the process of renovating an old historic high school into a multi-use space where preschoolers all the way to senior citizens will have a place to gather and learn. The EMBARK project is working on improving the transportation routes and using CBC (community business centers) with special opportunity zones at the forefront.
