Shaker Heights is historically very diverse and carries a history of open dialogue about race relations. While many of the equality-mindedness is unfortunately nominal, Shaker is unique in the explicit long-standing priorities to deliberate on racial equity, in which the well-regarded Student Group on Race Relations played a large role.
Community Activities and Services
My community is primarily brought together by the local school district. There is high engagement with educational decision-making and demonstrated care for this priority across the community. The community is also brought together by the preserved lakes and parks, particularly the Shaker Great Lakes, which have been the center of various advocacy projects and community-wide campaigns.

Brownlee Woods is a border community between Youngstown and Struthers with diverse ethnic groups. There are several churches and local establishments that are unique to it.

It is on the border of Youngstown and Struthers City separated by the Youngstown Poland Road, has a library within walking distance, and is served by several churches though members attend serves in many areas

There are some local hangouts but mostly it is a poorly developed economic area.
Community Needs and Concerns
Underemployment is a major problem even if people have jobs it is often not sufficient. There are some resources in the area but most stores are not in the community per se and if dependant on Youngstown only would be a food desert, aging infrastructure and water is a concern as well as poor schools that continue to prove unable to improve.
