Cultural or Historical Interests
We are a diverse neighborhood with quite a few churches and a courthouse downtown. Yet, our voting precinct is located on North Timberland or has changed from year to year. This adds an extra layer of difficulty looking up for precincts each year or having to find transportation to vote instead of just walking to the courthouse or nearest church.
Community Activities and Services
My community is the downtown area of Lufkin, Texas. We are a diverse neighborhood and downtown area which could really be served by better sidewalks and bicycle lanes which would enhance both tourism and bicycle and pedestrian safety.
Economic or Environmental Interests
- My community has lots of ditches which need to be cut deeper as the water run over into the streets and yards during heavy rains. - Also, before major storms and ice events, storm drains and ditches need to be cleared. Over the past ten years, I have pulled tires, large pieces of carpet, large branches, concrete, and large amounts of trash and shoveled ice out of street / storm drains to prevent flooding and facilitate proper drainage.
Community Needs and Concerns
I am tired of watching police officers disproportionately pull over black and brown people. Police cars are paid for with public funds and should not say, "In God We Trust." Please keep the separation between church and state. Thank you.

Cultural or Historical Interests
Most residents are white; some are original residents and older; some are new families with children.
Community Activities and Services
Northwood Hills is an established suburban neighborhood in Far North Dallas, with primarily single-family homes and some duplexes, constructed in the 1960's. It is served by a homeowners' association in which membership is optional. Although it is in the City of Dallas, it feeds into the Richardson ISD, which is generally believed to offer higher-quality public education than the Dallas ISD. There are two RISD elementary schools within the neighborhood. There is also a library and recreation center (with tennis courts and swim park) and playing fields in the neighborhood. There is also a reform synagogue located within the neighborhood.
Economic or Environmental Interests
Most residents are white-collar professionals. A car is required to get to grocery stores and shopping. Although crime incidence is fairly low and generally limited to crimes of opportunity, many people would cite crime as a concern.
Community Needs and Concerns
Streets and alleys are in bad shape, as are some sidewalks. Street lighting is limited. Many of the duplexes in the north-east part of the neighborhood are rented and are not well maintained. Public transportation is not a strong suit in Dallas. Trash and recycling and bulk item collection and management needs to be re-thought with a focus on the environment. There is a problem with taking care of the homeless population in Dallas as a whole.

My community has two large Muslim religious centers - the Ismaili Jamatkhana and Center and the Maryam Islamic Center. There are several Hindu temples that people in the community go to but are not located directly in the area.
Economic or Environmental Interests
This community is suburban, upper class and upper middle class, highly educated - many people are in STEM careers (medicine, IT, engineers). Many people had been employed in oil & gas and oilfield services companies. Flooding is a major concern as well as severe weather (tropical storms/hurricanes). We have the University of Texas at Dallas and Richland college. We have many recreational services through the Richardson Parks and Recreation Department.
Economic or Environmental Interests
My community is a suburban community just outside Dallas. People of my community work for high tech companies, insurance companies, universities, and hospitals.
Community Needs and Concerns
We are concerned about affordable housing, healthcare funding, and the cost of higher education. There is a lack of affordable housing for people like firefighters and teachers. We have many students that are concerned about tuition at public colleges and student debt. Cultural or Historical Interests
My community is largely made up of white (~60%) and Hispanic (~35%) people, late 60s and up. Many neighbors have owned their homes for 30 years or longer, and they continue to reside in large homes on large lots occupied by one or two people. We are affluent, well educated professionals who often have been involved in government service and the military, healthcare, education and social work. This precinct has voted majority Democratic in the last 3-4 years in spite of being associated with the most conservative section of the city, which generally trends Republican. Our precinct heavily supported Beto O'Rourke and many campaigned for him.
Community Activities and Services
Many people originally moved to this neighborhood to enroll their children in what was regarded as the best school district in the city. We are largely a group of independent, secure individuals who are aging in place. While neighbors are relatively friendly, and the area is rich with activities and services, there does not appear to be an emphasis on group activities among neighbors, with a couple of exceptions: one street of several blocks in the neighborhood that socializes monthly in front yards and a fairly active group of Democrats (12 or so) who work with the precinct chair plus another 12-15 others who, before COVID, attended a monthly breakfast to discuss progressive politics.
Economic or Environmental Interests
My community is largely made up of people who are retired with pensions and investments plus Social Security. Those who are employed are professionals, often in helping professions such as healthcare, education and social work, but also law, finance, real estate and small business owners. Many neighbors have owned their homes for 30 years or longer, and they continue to reside in large homes on large lots occupied by one or two people. The pleasant neighborhood doesn't suggest any environmental problems although neighbors are conscious of the larger climate issues and are somewhat concerned about damage to the Edwards Aquifer, our water source.
Community Needs and Concerns
This community is most likely to be attracted to issues related to property taxes, public safety and public services. Our precinct would like to be redistricted so that our Democratic votes are not diluted by conservative precincts and outlying rural communities.

Cultural or Historical Interests
My community was built to be a "whites only" neighborhood in the late 40's. It's still in the deed to my house. My neighborhood is adjacent to enclaves of apartments which are relatively affordable compared to other areas of town. This entire part of Austin, east of IH 35, was once the ONLY part of Austin where Hispanics and African Americans were allowed to live. Because Austin has grown and restrictive zoning laws and high housing costs have exploded - my community has become less diverse.
Community Activities and Services
Patterson Park and Mueller Park are both gathering spots for my community. There are also two grocery stores, multiple churches and two hospitals located within walking distance of my neighborhood.
Economic or Environmental Interests
My community is on the East Side of Austin. Many of my neighbors work in the non-profit sector. I live in a neighborhood that was once whites only. Now - the neighborhood is attempting to become a designated "historic" neighborhood making single family homes the only type of development that is allowed.
Community Needs and Concerns
We need more and better public transportation and affordable housing. Although we have great access to services and are close to downtown, this area of town has become too expensive for most and hard to navigate without a car.
