Community Information

transportation education environment

My community lives in urban Salt Lake City and has common interests with other SLC neighborhoods. I ride UTA and need good transit connections to connect tothe Universit of Utah, Downtown and the airport. We have chronic problems with air pollution, and an urgent need to protect the Great Salt Lake ecosystem. We shop downtown and often send our kids to schools in the Salt Lake School District, Salt Lake Community College, the U of U or Westminster College.

We support cultural organizations though a community supported ZAP tax in Salt Lake County. The annual Living Traditions festival celebrates cultural diversity. A local business, Rancho Market, caters to Latino and Middle Eastern shoppers. I belong to the First Unitarian Church, a religious community that largely draws its congregation from neighborhoods near the University of Utah.

Nearby outdoor recreation is in the Wastach mountains and foothills, Bonneville Shoreline Trail, Jordan River Trail and public parks. There is an urgent need to protect the Great Salt Lake ecosystem from pollution and developemnt. We have chronic problems with air pollution that will be made worse by irresponsible developement of an "inland port" in the NW of Salt Lake City. Drought, heatwaves and wildfires are affecting quality of life.

We need a good transit network to connect the University of Utah, downtown, airport and surrounding neighborhoods. Further development of the inland port needs to be stopped to avoid air pollution, traffic congestion and harm to the Great Salt Lake ecosystem. While politicians boast about the great economy, population growth is rapidly making Salt Lake City unlivable-- housing costs exceed incomes, traffic is getting impossibly bad, poor air quality is impacting public health, and outdoor spaces that used to make Salt Lake City nice are overcrowded and becoming overdevloped by ski areas and such. SLCounty needs its own congressman instead of being split up into urban/rural slices.
