My community is made of people who I have have mostly known all my life. It is a diversified rural community where people are happy to lend a helping hand to each other. Recently, we had an overwhelming response from people who helped with summer youth programs. This is a good place to live and we look forward to voting for leaders who share our core values. I would hate to see our community broken apart by the Redistricting process.
Both culturally and historically, I am working with the organization, Wreaths Across America that will provide Christmas wreaths for all 14 veteran's graves that are in our historic Charlestown United Methodist Church cemetery. I am also working with the VFW to get new flags installed at the same graves, in honor of our many former church members who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
Presently many wooded areas are being deforested. And after the trees are gone, the land is not being cultivated into something that is beneficial for the community. It is easy to see this as a threat to our environment.
Our community needs to establish a greater focus on the elderly. While there are many elderly who have friends and family to assist them, there are many who do not. A senior center and a rural transportation service would do wonders towards addressing those needs.
