Community Information

Interurban Transportation Authority, Fire District, Kalamazoo Lake Sewer and Water Authority, Saugatuck Douglas District Library, Tri-Community Planning Agreement Saugatuck Douglas Historical Society. S-D-ST have long history of working collaboratively, provide services economically, preserve the natural areas that are very much a part of our Lake Michigan and Kalamazoo shoreline areas.

Some Native American decendents, Year round population, families with children mostly in township, high number of retired people, strong LGBTQ year round community. Summer resort, population increases significantly, Historic District in Saugatuck City, strong visual Arts community, OXBOW Summer School of Art--affiliated with CHicago Art Institute. Active Saugatuck Douglas Historical Society--much shared history between communities. Abandoned town Singapore, MI, historic site from 1800's.

Kalamazoo River and Lake Michigan shoreline, Sand Dunes, Tourism industry, lack of affordable housing. Sport Fishing, Boating industry, small agricultural businesses. Many Workers commute to Holland, Grand Rapids, South Haven or other communities for manufacturing work.

Similar community issues as South Haven, Ganges, Glenn, Coloma, Benton Harbor St. Joseph. The Saugatuck-Douglas-Saugatuck Township Community needs to be kept together and kept in the same Congressional district. Share policy issues concerning Sand Dune conservation and water quality lakes and streams. Erosion along Lake MI from high water, one road has 2 washouts endangering residents fire and emergency protection.
