My community is the Central Phoenix Mountain Preserves. It is an area that draws residents from all sides of the mountains who have common interests to the preserves and the public policy that governs the area. It is an area for family gathering, recreation, eco-adventuring, and fitness. In addition, a great number of churches and synagogues border the perimeter and draw worshipers from all sides. This includes the neighborhoods of Sunnyslope, Shadow Mountain, East Phoenix, and Paradise Valley.
The Preserves were recently thrust into the spotlight when a large water main infrastructure project was to run through the center of the mountains. By having a common legislative team, the surrounding neighborhoods were able to work with state legislators and city officials to reroute the water main. The neighborhoods of Sunnyslope, Shadow Mountain, East Phoenix, and Paradise Valley respectfully request that a common legislative district be formed to serve this community of interest.
The community surrounds the perimeter of the Mountain Preserves. Thus, the preserves should not be a dividing line for districts; but rather, a center point and focus for all the surrounding neighborhoods.
