My immediate community is made up of graduate students who attend the University of Utah and the surrounding community is made up of relatively affluent white-collar citizens with an interest in culture, education, and outdoor recreation.
Most of the neighborhoods in my community are older neighborhoods that likely share a high-level of education, an interest in outdoor recreation, and community improvement. Unlike other parts of the state, the religious makeup of my community is unlikely to be majority Mormon.
A substantial proportion of my community either attends or works at the University of Utah. Because we all share Salt Lake City, there is a significant concern about air quality and the decreasing length and amount of our annual snowfall (which hampers the ski season). I think we share a desire for access to clean, outdoor spaces.
Federally, I am represented by the same person who represents Saint George while many of my friends and co-workers whose houses I can drive to in 5 minutes are represented by someone else. It's bizarre. My broader community has been sliced and diced so that we are split up and not represented by people who share our same values. At the state level, our current borders seem to do a good job at keeping my immediate community together and represented by people who share out values.
