My community was once a beautifully thriving place of promise for its Black residents. However, throughout the years it has continually experience a decline in positive growth. As the original settlers passed away, many formerly beautiful homes have become dilapidated, and others have fallen victim of unconcerned renters. This is now a community of vacant homes right next to those that are boarded up. It is mostly an area of blight. But those of us who still care about where we live, are doing our best to properly maintain where we are.
My community is only minutes from historic downtown Savannah.
It seems that people who want to work can find it, even if it is not what they want.
Visitors pass along Bay Street headed towards the beauty that lies ahead without having any idea of the extent of deterioration of the neighborhoods that surrounds them. Savannah has to do much more to address this area's neighborhoods that are steadily becoming a source of blight. My community needs resources fed into it that will address the needs of its people . As we hope for this, we do not want our community unfairly divided through redistricting.
