My community is a predominately Black rural area that is made up of people who have lived here for as many as 5 generations. The history began when our ancestors who were share croppers now have descendants who now own the land that they once worked so hard on with very little reward. We can also find some individuals who grew up, moved away and have now returned to once again call this place home. The heart of our community finds its place in our local churches. Many of theses grand edifices bring forth both good and bad memories of days gone by, with many of them having been founded over 150 years ago.
We are proud to call this community of ours home. Through the years we have experienced great growth as we have gone from the days of picking, and chopping cotton. Through education, hard work, and opportunity, we have made great progress and that is something that we do not want to see taken away from us.

My community is 22 miles away from Statesboro and the same distance from downtown Sylvania. During a medical emergency, it is a toss-up as to where to go to seek medical help. However, very few would choose to go to the Sylvania hospital. Whenever anyone is taken there, that person is then transferred to the Statesboro hospital, which is a much better equipped facility. Sylvania needs a better hospital! We also have children of varying ages in our community who would greatly benefit from after school services that would enhance what they are learning in school. We need a Community Center. In the City of Sylvania there are 2 recreation centers, but none in the rural areas.
