Our small towns each have vibrant central "downtown" areas, we have access to many town, county, and state parks and recreation areas, including a portion of the "Border to Border" trail and the Huron and Raisin Rivers. 3 out of the 4 towns have supermarkets. Chelsea has a hospital which is affiliated with the 2 large hospitals in Ann Arbor. Chelsea and Dexter each have successful community theaters. We do go to Ann Arbor frequently to obtain services and recreation not available at home.
Each town's local schools provide a major sense of belonging. We are mostly an area of low diversity both in ethnicity and religion (Caucasian, Christian). We value education and support our local fitness facilities. We also work to support our local economies.
My community surrounds the west and south sides of Ann Arbor. There are a few dominant sources of employment available. These include farming, the local schools, medical facilities, local manufacturing, main street stores and restaurants, and we serve as a bedroom community for Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan.
Our schools, with the help of the Washtenaw Intermediate School District, share resources and work together on programming and other educational issues. Sharing the same representatives in Lansing and Washington DC would be helpful to have our voices be heard.
