This is a very diverse rural community that sits along the Savannah River. It has a mixture of cultures as well as economic bases. While many of us are different in many ways, we still find a shared connection in peacefully living in the same area. It is my hope that as Redistricting is done, that it will be done fairly with consideration of the people who call this community home.
Historically, Newington is home to Walker Grove Church and school, both of which were formed in the late 1800s by freed slaves . While very little remains of the schoolhouse, efforts are being made to preserve the historic church.
More economic resources are needed in this community for both the working and retired people. Those on fixed incomes are finding it hard to exist on what they receive, and those working are equally challenged due to low wages.
My community needs more resources along with concern for the elderly. It is easy to see that these are people who are being both economically and socially. The need is big and it needs to be satisfied.
