My community is made up of people aged 50 +. We don't really gather except for doing so at homes of family members. Just about everyone in the community are related.
My community's cultural bonds center around originally being named the Halcyondale Community, which was an all Black community. Presently, the area is more diversified. Historically, this has always been a farming community with a few Black landowners. Most notably there was a community black owned store.
Presently, most residents in this area are retirees. Those who are still working, are factory workers. Environmental issues are the concerns regarding the large volume of traffic that is generated by the logging community and other big trucks that frequently use Effingham Highway. We would like to have a speed limit posted in our community.
Elderly people live in this area and many still operate vehicles, for that reason and the presence of school age children, a speed limit needs to be enforced along with signs that indicate bus stops. We also need a senior's center. The present center is located in the heart of Sylvania, which is not easily accessible.
