My community is primarily comprised of generational residents based on the industry that demanded many workers many years ago. These generations have remained in the area due to the affordability and proximity to industry and local jobs. Many of the neighborhoods that make up the larger community have historically been red-lined.
My community is located in a current and historically industrial area, with many major highways and transit corridors running through. Access to health services, healthy living conditions and accountability for corporations polluting in our community. Generational impacts to health and wellbeing are no longer acceptable in my community's eyes.
We need access to affordable housing to stay close to jobs. We need access to fresh food and local eateries to support local business. We need connectivity to other parts of the city, better sidewalks, better bike lanes, better transit, better lighting. We need rezoning to consider the voice of the community.
