There's a bus line that serves North Central Mass, but it is very sporadic. Fitchburg Art Museum, attractive destination for folks, could be cultural nucleus for the city.

Higher concentrations of extremely low-income individuals in the area surrounding downtown Fitchburg. There is an effort underway right now to do economic development there. North of Main is the project focused on revitalization of the area through arts, culture, and other mechanisms; involves the university. The largest employers in the region are the hospitals, largest is UMass Memorial. Other large employers are Fitchburg State University, ARC, and manufacturing industry, especially plastics (but manufacturing is dying off). Tourism in surrounding areas and in Leominster, especially from apple picking.
Downtown Fitchburg had the lowest levels of participation, higher levels of COVID-19 infection. Transportation is sparse. Access to employment opportunities that yield family sustaining wages, specifically for undereducated residents. Lack of affordable childcare options. Housing costs and instability.
