We live west of the parks that are built on cliffs. We enjoy Riverside Park, Riverbank State Park, St. Nicholas Park, Jackie Robinson Park, and Morningisde Park. We rely on the 1 train to go uptown and downtown, and we rely on the M100, M101, M4, and Bx19 buses to go crosstown. There are only 5 or so crosstown streets connecting us to Central Harlem and points east (110th St, 125th Street, 126th Street, 141st Street, and 145th Street). Our housing is almost all pre-war and is or was rent-regulated. Many of us live in HDFC co-operatives.

We are a mix of Black, Jewish, Dominican, Puerto Rican, Salvadorian, Colombian, West African, West Indian, Irish, Cuban, Chinese, Mexican, Venezuelan, and other longstanding communities, as well as newcomers. Many of us speak Spanish as our primary language, but many people have now been naturalized or at least achieved green card status. There is a rich mix of Catholic, Baptist, Pentecostal, COGIC, Episcopal, and other houses of worship.

We are near the North River Treatment plant, a wastewater treatment plant that has been polluting our community for decades, and we have more than our fair share of bus depots and other contributors to air pollution. We have a factory district on 126th and Amsterdam Avenue that is trying to become and employment hub. Columbia's expansion into Manhattanville is driving higher rents across the district. We have higher than average unemployment and a higher than average number of us are employed as frontline workers.

Our community is currently split between two Council districts (7 and 9), and we would like everyone west of the cliffs/parks to be in the same district.
