Community Information

My community is made of a mixture of both older and young adults. Many of the younger adults have growing families This once thriving community is experiencing a period of decline. It is distressing to see the many properties that have been purchased by Memorial Hospital being left in a state of blight with overgrown lawns and shrubs. These properties are a magnet for the accumulation of debris. The properties that are occupied, are Section 8 with tenants who are showing very little regard for where they live. This is not the ideal place to live, but it is home. Leaders should not only address issues in the more affluent areas of this fine city, but also in areas like this.

There are many historical churches in my community that organize events such as food distributions. They do their best to help community members. However, that is not enough. This area is being left behind. There are barely any resources for the children creating the need for after school programs. But the only outlet is the park that was recently built and children are afraid to go there. Savannah is filled with major arts attractions, culture, and history, but it is very hard to believe that from here.

Many of the people in my community are on Section 8. And some others are experiencing a high unemployment rate. From the way it is now, it is hard to imagine any positive growth developing in this area.

My community needs better concern from our leaders. Presently it is being allowed to languish into greater blight, day by day. We have a need for better social services that will address its existing condition. It is really hard to say what we expect to receive from the Redistricting process, except that we want to have fair lines drawn that will bring us a benefit. We want to be able to choose leaders of our choice who will show some genuine concern for our community. The needs are many and we need leaders who care.
