Community Information

I work with a consortium of community organizations --NAACP, Agape Multicultural Ecumenical Network, People Helping Others Excel By Example, Gateway Community Assn, Webb Community Center, etc. -- to help meet the needs of the African American community in Garland County, Arkansas.

My community is predominately African American, mostly Christian although other ethnicities and faiths are represented. The Pleasant Street Historic District is the largest historically African-American district in Arkansas and has many locations that were included in the Green Books that were used by African American motorists during the 20th Century.

I would like to see employment opportunities where there is an opportunity for advancement as well as quality housing for African Americans and the poor. Also, in Districts 1 and 2, there is a lack of grocery stores where people can find affordable healthy foods and fresh produce.

There are concerns when it comes to safety and the threat of gun violence. I would like to see crime prevention through restorative justice: drug treatment, deterrence programs, etc .
