My community is made of people that go to New York-Presbyterian Hospital for their health. They use nearby A, C, and 1 Train stations, alongside several bus lines. They go to public schools K-12. They worship in the Church of the Incarnation. They shop in a wide variety of store, from massive chains to local family shops
My community is mostly made of the Latino/a community, primarily originating from the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. They have been in the area for over 50 years. Many of this community practice Roman Catholicism, speak Spanish as their first language, trend older than other communities, and are awaiting changes in immigration status.
My community is located in a dense urban environment. Unemployment is a major issue. A majority of the jobs held here are in the health/personal care industry, the food/service industry, and the education industry. Much like the rest of the city, pollution has deeply affected the community health-wise, with large numbers asthma and other related conditions.
By far, the biggest concern within this community is rent cost. The community has high levels of income inequality, so skyrocketing rent costs far exceed the average salary, pushing many on the brink of homelessness, or at least a low living standard.
