My community is made up of people who fellowship with one another. Our shared faith in God is very important to all of us. Prior pandemic we enjoyed fellowshipping with one another at our various churches. We are a rural community wherein personal transportation is a very important factor. As neighbors, we look out for one another's welfare. This is a good community and I am happy to be a part of it.
An historical part of our community is the Willow Hill School, presently the Willow Hill School Museum and Community Resource Center. It was originally purchased and built by local African American farmers. Upon the advent of intergration in the mid 1960s it was taken over by the Bulloch County Board of Education. It is presently supported by contributions from former students. It was privately purchased some years ago and made into a museum with a very rich history.
Presently local residents have various types of employment with many traveling into Statesboro for work. GSU is possibly the major employer in the area. However, there are also many retired persons in the area. There is concern regarding pesticides and other chemicals that big farmers use. However, that is not being publicly addressed.
The biggest need in our community is that of public transportation. While many residents have cars, many don't. This means that life can be difficult when the need for travel arises. We also need more opportunities for business growth. Added to that is the need for better access to healthcare.
