The west side (west of I-25 and South Platte River) have large Hispanic/Latino populations that deserve to be represented by people within this community. The ethnic and cultural makeup of areas north of Sloan's Lake (whiter, wealthier, and gentrified) are different from the cultural interests of communities south of Sloan's Lake (more diverse and rapidly gentrifying).
Homelessness is a growing problem on the West Side - not only with people sleeping in Lakewood/Dry Gulch and other parks, but also in vehicles on the street and with family and friends. The lack of affordable housing being built is pushing longtime residents out.
Many people on the West Side rely on public transportation to access groceries, services, and work, but these areas have poor transit service (infrequent, unreliable, and getting worse) along Federal Blvd., Sheridan Blvd., Alameda Blvd., Colfax Ave., and within neighborhoods. The area south of Sloan's Lake and west of I-25 deserves better transit to the rest of the region and within this community.
