Community Information

gentrification housing crime education affordable

My community is made up of a Latinx Community that attends Our Lady of Lourdes Church. This Church offers education for young students, hosts religious events, and offers resources such as food, clothes etc.

West Harlem needs to preserve its historical building patterns and neighborhood scale

The West Harlem community needs to create job-intensive businesses that benefit residents.

Currently, the neighborhood is in the early stages of gentrification. There are rising rent prices, and large corporations are opening businesses in the neighborhood; causing mom-and-pop shops to close down and making it unaffordable for neighbors who have lived in the community the majority of their lives. The West Harlem community also needs to address the safety of the neighborhood, and provide better education for its youth.
