People in my community often go to the Walt Whitman Mall or the Huntington Village area for recreation. Driving is the number 1 dominant way that most people use to get around this suburban community.
My community of interest is "Huntington", inside the larger town of Huntington, New York. The demographics of my community include a White non-Hispanic majority, with a large Latin American and a smaller yet also substantial African American population. My community has a long history because the Town of Huntington was founded in 1653. My community of interest of "Huntington" shall be defined as including the census-designated places of Huntington Bay, Halesite, Huntington Village, Huntington Station, and South Huntington.
A lot of people live and have employment in my same community. At the same time, there is also a substantial population of professionally employed "Huntington" residents who take the Long Island Railroad from Huntington and commute to work in NYC.
The Huntington town government and the Suffolk County Government need to know that my community of interest needs to be distinguished from the other census-designated places that also form part of the larger Town of Huntington map. I feel that the constituents of "Huntington", defined as the previously mentioned 5 census designated places in the larger town of Huntington, have some very important political and socioeconomic interests that are ignored and or treated with downright hostility from the elected Town of Huntington government. The lack of Affordable rent and housing stock are issues that have existed for decades in "Huntington", yet the town government does not see this as a problem
