Community Information

transportation education affordable

One of the Key services defined by my community is that all the people I surveyed used the NYC Metro System. Its how they get around the city a majority of the time, and none of the participants owned any form of vehicular transportation. According to the Survey’s responses and the MTA system, Majority of the surveyees used the 4 train rather than the 6 with some outliers using the F train due to living in queens. Baruch community stores are defined by Fast food restaurants and food carts. People understand the commuter culture around the area so restaurants aren't a very defining feature. Students are always on the move and need places to get a quick bite to eat.

What really defines us all is our shared disruption of our daily lives by the pandemic. 3rd and 4th years lived 2 years in an online setting and this is the first year sophomores actually attended college in person. A once in a 100 years pandemic disrupted everything and radically changed how we studied and worked. As Baruch is a predominantly business focused school, most students who attend there have a business mindset. Some of the surveyors didn’t tell me what job worked but some added extra details such as they work as managers, interns at big corporations, or work in financial offices. We share a culture of business and high-productivity in tandem with a commuter culture.

Many students at baruch college are interested in business so many people have jobs relating to business especially the seniors who are more career oriented. Students in the survey don’t have a job working in the school but work jobs in the Five boroughs. Even though according to the Rudin center, the area is ranked 14/177 for job access so there are plenty of jobs in the area. Students in internships are around the Zipcode but otherwise most students work elsewhere. But Many students do complain about the high-cost of living. While some students see their careers in the city, many want the education to get out and move to somewhere where there are better opportunities for living. NYC is one

According to the students, crime is almost a negligible concern in baruch or around the campus. Many people don’t stick around too long and oftentimes go straight home after they are done with classes. According to the NYC Map of crime data, there are only 1.4 crimes per 1000 residents which is pretty average. Since Baruch is very busy traffic wise, and since the subways are nearby. Crimes don’t happen around baruch often or the students in the study felt no concern over it. What students do have concerns over are typically student problems, such as the courses they study. Seniors have it rough since they want to graduate and they are on a career track so they have to get everything in order
