My community is made up of a wide variety of age groups. This is a college town and that means there is a diverse group of college age students living in areas around both Utah Valley University and Brigham Young University. There is also a diverse and family oriented group of individuals in Utah Valley. Both universities draw plenty of visitors to their facilities with both art and sports performances occurring regularly throughout the year. There are numerous apartment complexes including The Green, University Towers, University Gateway, and Parkway Lofts. A lot of these areas are accessible via UTA public transportation but there is very little in the way of parks and open nature spaces.
We are a predominantly Mormon valley but there are a wide representation of denominations around the Utah Valley area. Our age group is definitely lower with the majority of population in the area being made up of college students. We are expanding in Hispanic numbers and deserve representation in that area.
We are located near Utah Lake and the massive plans to introduce human projects into the lake to supposedly restore it to a former glory raises concerns to me. It's one of the biggest fresh bodies of water this side of the Mississippi and deserves to be preserved rather than meddled with. In addition, the climate change of recent decades has had an impact on weather patterns in Orem and there needs to be more action to bring attention and fix these issues.
