My community is situated on Franklin Ave at the crossroad between Prospect Heights and Crown Heights. There are plentiful restaurants to enjoy with the Brooklyn Museum and Prospect Park just a short walk away. There are several longstanding churches, mosques, and synagogues. Manhattan and other areas of Brooklyn are easily accessible through the 2345 and AC trains.
The Crown Heights community is a unique combination of longstanding Jewish and Black communities, quickly diversifying beyond just these groups. Prospect Heights is whiter and wealthier. The Franklin Ave community lives on the border.
Many of my peers in the neighborhood commute to Manhattan for work (or school). It takes me less than 20 minutes to get to work in FiDi. The train into Manhattan contains predominantly people of color where I get on, and then gets whiter with each stop closer to Manhattan.I am not aware of any particular environmental concerns besides the standard general concerns and desire to protect our limited green space.
Biggest concerns in my neighborhood are around gentrification. Rent prices are increasing and more young professionals are moving in, displacing black communities and small businesses that have lived and operated there for a long time.
