My community is made up of a mixture of retired persons and those with school age children. We share the common bond of appreciating where we live and supporting each other. Although situated at the edge of the city limits, we are in close proximity to many churches, the local hospital, county & city government buildings, grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations, library, businesses, and schools. We love our community and work towards keeping a good place for all of us to live.
The original home builders here were Black, now we have a diversified group of neighbors. And we live together harmoniously. Very close to this area is that of many farming communities. Those areas have a history of having had many sharecropping families in the past. Presently, the cotton fields, peanut fields, and corn fields cover the landscape and very large machines harvest whatever the crops yield.
People in this area have a mixture of education and employment backgrounds. As a result, we have ministers, teachers, factory workers, nurses and people in other lines of work who we are proud to say are our neighbors. Presently, there aren't any environmental issues that I can think of.
My community is located in the County but zoned for City services. Sometimes it appears that the City is neglectful regarding its proper maintenance. We need for the City to show the same concern for this area as it does for those in the downtown. We want our community fairly represented with fair mapping in the Redistricting process. We want to be able to vote for leaders of our choice who will share in our policy concerns ,and desired well being for everyone who lives here, and in the surrounding areas. We want fair mapping!
