My community is made up of many God fearing people, and our goal is to treat others as we desire to be treated. We have a mixture of retirees, and working-class individuals along with their children. We live in a County area that has some city zoning and sometimes find it very hard to get issues addressed and resolved. People mostly gather at church. And we have access to a Senior Citizen's Center, County Recreational Resource Center, library, a few restaurants, locally-owned and chain food stores, a few small shops, and yes, we have a local hospital. This is an area without public transportation and the majority of citizens are car owners. For the most part, it is a good place to live.
The area has always been a mixture of Blacks and Whites. In years past, this was one of the main locations of segregation wherein it was commonplace to see signs that designated where Blacks were or were not allowed. We are happy to say that those days are behind us as we look towards a more harmonious future than ever before. We love our community and we want to keep it together.
My community is experiencing the same economic situation as that of other surrounding. There is very little in the way of local jobs, and people must travel quite a few miles in order to obtain gainful employment. However, that has become an acceptable way of life, and many enjoy being here. We take pride in our homes and environment.
My community needs to have better enforcement of zoning ordinances. This has always been a very beautiful residential area. However, we have a newer neighbor who operates an Animal Rescue facility that makes it impossible for neighbors to enjoy their homes, and have a decent quality of life. Although complaints have been made to the city that resulting in the discovery of 40 dogs, 30 cats, and many birds on the property, the facility is still in operation. We need help in order to restore beauty to our community. We want to stay in the same district so we can have representation that will address our concerns and have leadership that is for all people, not just some.
