My precinct is one half of Uptown Charlotte (the main street Tryon St decides the two Uptown precincts - my precinct, Precinct 13 encompasses the east side of uptown and includes the historic African American neighborhood, Brooklyn. Precinct 11 is the westside of Tryon in Uptown Charlotte. Tryon runs North and South). The African American neighborhood of Brooklyn was subject extreme gentrification and the community moved entirely. My side of Uptown has all of the business hotels, the major transportation hub, all the major Charlotte/Mecklenburg County governmental buildings and the Charlotte right rail stations in Uptown. It also includes new mid-rise and hi-rise apartments and condos
The business side of uptown is mostly in Precinct 11 on the westside of Tryon Street. Headquarters for companies like Honeywell Bank of America and critical locations for Duke Energy and Wells Fargo on are on or right off of Tryon. It is this area that makes Charlotte a major corporate and banking center.
This major economic development does not include appear to include many Charlotte residents, especially BIPOC populations.
