The immigrant community in Quincy is large.The Asian community consists of over 30% of the city of Quincy. It includes 41% of the public school system, and a plurality in the public schools. They have a shared interest in multilingual language access, including Chinese and Vietnamese. Hispanics are about 8.4% of the public school system. The Black population is 6.9% of the public schools.
There are big cultural events in the city, including celebration of the Lunar New Year and August Moon, which has over 10,000 attendees from the Quincy area. This is of interest to both the Asian and broader community in the area.
The majority of this community are blue-collar workers. Many work at or own restaurants. Many also work in construction. When COVID-19 hit, this community was severely impacted because restaurants were closed and had less service.
QARI and ACDC hold voter registration events in the area. The community health center (South Cove Community Health Center) serves over 4,000 Asian patients. They go to this health center because it offers multilingual services. South Cove also helps the community apply for healthcare coverage and is a trusted provider.This community includes not just the Asian community but also Middle Eastern, Russian, Brazilian, Portuguese, Haitian individuals. ESOL and citizenship classes are popular with this community.
