My community is my neighborhood on the southeast side of Salt Lake City, in the foothills area, the Foothill Dr corridor from I80 up to 800 South and includes my church community. It extends west to state street encompassing all of sugar house.
I consider all of the Salt Lake valley to be my community in the sense that the city and country share the concerns of urban dwelling and enjoy the concomitant cultural opportunities. Salt Lake City has attracted likeminded people who prefer to live among diversity and heterogeneity as opposed to the more insular rural counties, or the homogeneous communities like Davis & Utah counties. Salt lake county is unique in the state with its larger ethnic and LGBTQIA+ populations, and diversity of religious affiliations.
Salt Lake City is the financial center of Utah and the gateway to the rest of the state. The surrounding mountains create a discreet ecological area that faces unique issues of congestion, air pollution, homelessness, crime and poverty, transportation and infrastructure that rural counties and “bedroom/commuter” areas like Utah and Davis county don’t share.
