This is one of, if not the most, ethnically diverse communities in Utah. There are many immigrants and asylum seekers in the community, and also many long-term native-born residents. We are very "blue collar", but are seeing the beginnings of gentrification. The majority of the district being rural means that the majority has no idea about the needs of such a diverse community, and the urban component has no idea of rural needs.
This is an urban community, with urban concerns. At present, we are combined into a district which is overwhelmingly rural. Rural voters do not understand the needs of urban communities, and urban communities do not understand the needs of rural communities. At present it seems the only elections our votes count for anything are city ones.
