Our Community is lacking in critical services most neighborhoods in Denver have such as a Public Library, Recreation Centers, and Early Childhood Education providers.
We are one of the most culturally diverse communities in the City of Denver with a wide range of nationalities and languages represented in the neighborhood.Being a truly multilingual and multicultural community is something that is unique to East Colfax and therefore requires that our neighborhood be united into one Council DistrictLanguage access issues are of critical importance in East Colfax.
East Colfax has a significant population (27%) that is living below the poverty line. This is significantly higher than other neighborhoods in Denver.By splitting our neighborhood into Two City Council Districts with more power and privilege with Central Park and Park Hill on the North (District 8) and Montclair, Lowry, and Hilltop on the South (District 5), we are putting an already disadvantaged community in competition with neighborhoods with extremely different interests and needs. This is setting East Colfax up for failure. The City should be investing in giving East Colfax all the support it needs to be a unified voice advocating for the resources we need.
East Colfax 78 out of 78 on the Equity Scale in the City of Denver and therefore East Colfax needs to be united into one City Council District as the issues facing our neighborhood require specific leadership and advocacy. We are stronger together, and want to work as a unified community and not be broken up and "absorbed" into other neighborhoods.
