My community of interest is the Bridgeport/Chinatown area of Chicago. It's defined by more than one activity and service, including schools, local businesses, and parks, as well as infrastructure (river, highways, public transit) which define boundaries and movement in and out of the community.
In my experience, this is the most compelling parameter defining our community, which -- along with other south and southwest Chicago -- suffers from significant environmental and health problems attributable to misguided development and environmental racism. No matter where you look -- tree canopy, lead poisoning, asthma, housing quality and affordability, access to green space, etc. -- we are not getting our fair share of resources to address these issues. This is attributable, in part to our alderman, who focuses his efforts on the economic interests of his cronies, even if it harms his other constituents.
