Jamaica Ave is a hub and is mostly known for its transportation because it connects certain parts ; has different communities such as the South Jamaica Houses Community Center for children youth development, Service Program for Older Adults, Queens Community Justice Center who works with people in and out of the justice system providing a range of supporting services and opportunities for engagement of people of all ages and so much more..
Jamaica Queens has a diverse community where its composed of African Americans, Caribbean Blacks Hispanics, West Indians, Bengalis and White. Languages spoken are Haitian, patois, Chinese, English and Bengali. Most inhabitants are youth to middle aged adults and green card holders mixed with US citizens. In terms of history, it was originally settled in under Dutch rule in 1656 then under English rule in 1898 it became the center of the town and had the first county seat in Queens, and was also the first incorporated village on Long Island.
It was long neglected before but crime has decreased and there's been developments thats been made. For instance, the Jamaica station has expanded with a new transfer to AirTrain to JFK and a new LIRR platform. It's home to many developments such as several government buildings such as the Queens Civil Court & Family Court, the Social Security office & the Queens County Supreme Court
The community would need better traffic control and security because it is a very busy street and drivers are out of control and More new apartments and more renovation is needed.
