This is a very active community for hiking, horseback riding, bicycling, exploring archaeological sites. Indoor activities concentrate in coffee shops, churches, restaurants, western bars and the local library. It has a western theme and draws numerous tourists.
My community has preserved the physical evidence of many pre-historic American Indian sites, numerous mines dot the township and ranching was a historical way of living.
Tourism is the main basis for the town's economy although many larger stores are have been approved and built on the southern boundary. Land preservation has resulted in our town partnering with other government agencies to purchase Spur Cross Ranch. We also have the Desert Foothills Land Trust. Maintaining a sustainable environment is of high importance.Water conservation/availability is of high concern given the increase in annual temperatures and decrease in rainfall. This includes the for profit water mining of our aquafer.
Our community commonly interconnects with Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tramonto/Noterra areas. People constantly move back and forth in these areas/cities for work, leisure, medical and social needs. We have no day to day commonality with Yavapai County to our north.Sustainable growth is of great concern to assure availability of water.Preservation of wildlife and habitat coupled with effects of climate change need to be considered in policy decisions regarding growth and development.
