Marana is a pleasingly diverse that has low income housing and million dollar mansions. We have a very active chamber of commerce and our own health care network. Our schools are very good with more recently built. We incorporated multiple parks into development and hold many community events. We are also closely affiliated with Tucson and the University of Arizona for our culture.
Marana began as a ranching and agriculture community that bonded around the community mindedness of a couple of women. We have established a park with a education walk that explains about our history and local service clubs financed a history bus that brings our history to schools.
Marana has had very good governance that has allowed it diverse economic growth. We have an outlet mall, a Costco and a Ritz Carlton. Our tourism has expanded to include a premier dude ranch. Plans are to make Marana a shipping hub with expansion of an airport and a possible rail switching facility. At that same time we are bordered in state mountains parks.
Currently we and our neighbors in Oro Valley represent only 15.3% of Congressional District 1. We have to compete and a majority rural and tribal district. Our legislative district spans little of our Pima county and most of Pinal county which borders on Phoenix. Again we have very little in common. Our newspaper, radio and television channels are Tucson based. More importantly, Pinal and Pima counties have handled water issues differently. When the water shortage happens we would be better off in Pima county which is more urban than competing with agriculture and mining water interests.
