In this particular COI, PACE Headstart is in this neighborhood. Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church is central to this part of the community. Montes Park and Gomes park are also social gathering spots, along with Dennison Memorial.
This community of New Bedford is predominantly Cape Verdean, with more recent immigration in the local public housing. Cape Verdean Creole is a prominent language spoken. Older historic homes are also in this area of the City. This area has Cape Verdean immigrants, some newer and some generational, who came to New Bedford with the whaling industry. Morris Twist Drill was a prominent employer, with the invention of the drill bit in New Bedford.
