My community is made of people who are retired with a few raising grandchildren. There are also a few young families with school aged children. We are in close proximity to many churches and many of our residents are also members of our faith community. We are located only minutes from our local hospital, major shopping mall, many strip malls, convenience stores, restaurants, GSU, and many other conveniences that can be found in an urban setting. We love our community and do not want it unfairly divided by Redistricting.
Nearby is the William James Middle School & Bd. of Education Headquarters. Prof. William James, an Atlanta College (now Morehouse) graduate came to Statesboro in 1907 to help local Black citizens found the Statesboro High & Industrial School. Only minutes away there is the newly built Statesboro Recreation Dept with its swimming pool and other high tech amenities. There is also the Averitt Theatre in downtown Statesboro that is near the historic courthouse. This is a beautiful community with much to offer residents and visitors alike.
Our community would greatly appreciate a better police presence. About 4 months ago we experienced drug distribution in our area. Police addressed the issue and now things have gotten much quieter. However, we rarely see police patrols. As we do not want the previous problem to spring back up, we want more policing. As the Redistricting lines are being redrawn, it is my hope that it will be done fairly and my community will be able to vote for leaders who are concerned about our well being.
