There's a strong Christian background many residents have, and lots of established churches in Trenton such as Shiloh Baptist Church. People like to eat and shop in the surrounding area - Rats Restaurant in Hamilton; Palmer Square in Princeton; Quaker Bridge mall in Lawrenceville; people attend public schools like Ewing High; Steinert High School. People go to Capital Health; St. Francis Hospital for healthcare. Many people go out in Cadwalader Park, Mill Hill Park, Moody Park, Trenton Thunder Stadium, the Delaware River and parks along the river are also places people like to go.
My community is mostly African American with a significant Latinx and white population as well. Many community members commute to Philadelphia, but many others work in the surrounding area. There's a mix between people who rent and people who own. Many people in the area have been based here for generations, but others have just moved to the area in recent years. The area is a great, diverse mix of people.
There are many people who work in blue collar jobs for the state of New Jersey. There is a good mix of service industry jobs in the surrounding area, as well as a lot of white collar jobs in pharmaceutical, legal, and finance fields.
There are issues with transportation and healthcare access. Mercer Hospital in downtown Trenton closed. There's a lack of sufficient walkable services in Trenton generally; housing, job opportunities. The area also lacks healthy and affordable food options. People may need to leave the immediate area for healthcare and other services. There's significant older, vacant housing stock in the area and not much investment to fix it up.
