Community Information

gentrification transportation diversity

Gentrification has changed Morristown from a small/medium diverse town to extremely expensive luxury developments alongside “decrepit” old housing. Residents have been driven out to towns like Dover. Morristown rents have increased by up to 30%. Communities of color have been displaced by real estate speculators and the rising cost of living near transit centers. Wealth is concentrated in Morris, Mendham, Chester, and Harding. There are disparate interests of homeowners vs. renters.

Morris County is extremely large and diverse. The Commission should group Morristown, Morris Plains, Mt Olive, Wharton, Rockaway, Parsippany together.
