The Dekalb public libraries and schools are invaluable resources in our community. Tucker Parks, such as Henderson, Kelley Cofer, Johns Homestead, and then new parks in Smoke Rise are also important gathering places.
Like other parts of Georgia, our area has been used frequently by the film industry. Most local candidates are interested in remaining competitive for these projects. Many of our schools qualify for free lunch and children are living in multi-generational households. Economic and community support for children, families, and elders is of importance in this area.I consider our community as one of the "inner suburbs," which is also seeing a lot of new development. New housing and commercial districts are making significant (negative) environmental impact on our streams and lakes.
Our area is spread out and surrounded and connected by several large arteries, including I-85 and I-285 and Hwy 78. Our connectivity creates inherent relationships to other parts of Atlanta -- Doraville, Brookhaven, Chamblee, Stone Mountain, Decatur, etc. We are constantly working, patronizing, and supporting businesses and communities along the same major corridors and have a vested interest in making sure decisions support the whole community.
