Water, Police and Fire Services are provided by the township. Trash is not covered and paid for privately, though there is one company contracted to serve the whole township. Major social centers are area parks and lakes, lake associations, and the two high schools, Waterford Mott and Waterford Kettering. Oakland Community College-Highland Lakes campus also provides some social opportunities.
Waterford values its water recreation highly. Over 11% of the township is comprised of lakes. Lake associations are the primary community hubs. Waterford shares a border with Keego Harbor and Sylvan Lake and our economies are related. We also share a border with Pontiac.
Waterford is in the center of Oakland County. There are 34 lakes in the township, so water quality is a big issue. The majority of the population is employed in health care or the automotive industry.
Demographics are shifting to include more people of color, although the population total numbers are very stable over the last 20 years. It is important that the concerns of people of color (about 17% of the total) are addressed by their district, while still adhering to the Voting Rights Act.
