My community is made of a diverse group of individuals. While this area has a history of being a farming community, it is still anchored in that industry. This area although in Screven County/Sylvania is located an equal distance from downtown Statesboro and uptown Sylvania. However, most services can be obtained in Statesboro. We are surrounded by many churches that have both Black and White congregants. On any given Sunday morning it is easy to see the racial divide as Blacks attend their churches and Whites attend theirs.
Historically, Wades Baptist Church, Dover, GA, which is located only a few miles west of this community gave life to what is historic 152 year-old Simmons Branch Missionary Baptist Church on HWY. 301/Simmons Branch Rd.
Many area residents find work either in Statesboro or Sylvania. At this time there are signs everywhere alerting people to available employment opportunities.
The community needs more assistance for the elderly residents. Many older persons no longer drive and a reliable means of transportation would be a bonus. Present;y, there is not enough being done to care for our elderly population. This is a good place to call home and we do not want to see it unfairly divided by Redistricting.
