Community Information

Many churches and nonprofits are very helpful to the communities in my area. A major concern that I have has is the fact that my community only has one domestic violence shelter in the entire city. As we know, this is a huge concern as numbers have skyrocketed even during COVID-19 as women and their children have continued to be battered. We NEED another shelter and source for women to go and be safe with their children and receive services.

We have some beautiful arts areas that benefit the community. My community in Tulsa is known for the awful Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921. Black members of our community work tirelessly to try and rebuild and reunify the community that was burned to the ground. This has continued to be unmatched by other populations. While the legislative system is wanting to pass the ability to paint blue lines on roads for policeman, our one historical marker "Black Lives Matter" was stripped off the street.

My community is located near a large river that is resourceful for many people. Because it is near main roads, it tends to have some garbage and pollution around it. I am also located next to a couple of small school areas with very limited resources for kids to play on. They may have somewhat of a field of grass which is helpful, but no play or sports equipment to utilize.

I want my community and people in power to stop acting like discrimination is not real, and work on recognizing it so we can reach healing. The health disparities in my community are also awful and need extreme attention to health care and access to healthy and affordable food.
